Frogs and Ladybugs

January 18th 2007

We had 2 snow days this week and are thankfully at the tail end of the slick roads and chilly weather (I hope). Sophia loves to be out and about especially if it means she can wear her frog gum boots and ladybug jacket - well wouldn't you want to jump puddles in this outfit?

Snowman

We took advantage of the snowy few days in Portland this week and Orestes taught Sophia the fine art of snowman making. Sophia was very excited with the finished product (no accounting for taste at this age) and has been rushing to the door to peak at her snowman ever since.

Mimi and Fifi

January '07

Mimi and Fifi are names Sophia came up with and they have stuck with us - at least for the time being. She likes to look in the mirror at herself saying, 'Hi Fifi, Hi Mimi'. Pretty sweet really. She's been stringing words together for the past few months and some of our favourites include:

Up we go, down we go, touchdown (with hands thrown in the air), up with the Fifi, hi to the grandad (as she looks at my Dad's photo on her wall), walk with the feet, help with the cook. You get the general idea - such a great age, so much fun and learning new things every day to keep us entertained.

Feeding time

Sophia is big on babies at the moment and feeding them is her idea of a very good time. The poor doll gets dragged back and forth across the high chair tray, usually fed upside down through any body part (hands, feet, stomach) and then thrown overboard. More omelette for us I guess.

Snow in Bend

We had a great time in Bend the week before Christmas. Just enough snow to get out and do some sledding. Sophia wasn't convinced it was the way to go and preferred to explore on her own - minus hat and gloves of course.

Holiday party

We had a great time at our neighbourhood party and took the chance to get a family photo - such as it is. Happy holidays!

Peas in a Pod

Clara is Sophia's special little friend. They love to play together and wear each other out running around competing with each other and stealing whatever the other one has discovered.

Halloween

What a good looking bug she makes. We had a lot of fun with the costume - no trick or treating yet thank goodness, it's a bit like Santa we're going to pretend it doesn't exist for as long as possible.

Garden time

Sophia loves to wander about the yard eating rocks, dirt and/or flowers. Bugs still to come I guess. Orestes built a great cedar fence so we have half a chance at keeping her corralled.

Smith Rock, Central Oregon

September '06.

As we drive back from Bend to Portland we pass by Smith Rock. It's a stunning formation, great for rock climbers and hikers. For all you closet Kevin Costner fans they filmed his movie, 'The Postman' at Smith Rock. We spent a beautiful fall afternoon watching the shadows play off the rocks, it was gorgeous.

Duck Fan - August 2006

Orestes is starting the brainwashing early as he uses toys to convince Sophia that the mighty Oregon Ducks are a winning football team....Go Ducks?

Birthday girl - July 27th 2006

We had a quiet birthday celebration for Sophia's 1st birthday as it turned out to be 104 degrees Fahrenheit on her actual birthday. Orestes was afraid the locals would melt. She loved her gifts and especially enjoyed the mouthful of cupcake.

Summer time - June 2006

Sophia loves to go for walks in the stroller with our final destination being the park where she can run wild. Makes me yearn for those long, warm summer days!
